Chinese Shield Machine Goes Out of the Country, Realizing the Full Line-through of Section #1 of Sou

In the early morning of July 25th, South Korea local time, Lot #1 of the Gwangyang-Yeosu Power Tunnel in South Jeolla Province, South Korea, was fully completed. The project uses the mud-water balance shield machine (DZ631) jointly developed by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry and Jiangling Construction Co., Ltd.

The total length of the tunnel in the bid section is 2.284m, and it travels through the sea area from below 90m to the middle island of Guangyang-Lishui. The tunnels mainly pass through complex terrain and rock fracture zones such as soft rock, hard rock and weathered rock. Among them, the construction water pressure is up to 9bar, and the maximum rock strength exceeds 262Mpa.
At the beginning of the design, China Railway Construction Heavy Industry inspected the Korean construction site, combined with Korean construction characteristics, carefully analyzed and summarized experience, optimized the design, and organized the equipment production to ensure the equipment production cycle and quality. In order to overcome the complex objective conditions of small starting space, high construction water pressure, high rock strength, etc., the R&D team designed and tailored the shield machine specifically, integrating a high pressure sealing system, an efficient rock breaking system, and a large flow. The mud circulation system is equipped with an ultra-low headroom segment crane and a side reel type pipeline extension system to meet the construction needs of small diameter tunnels.
Equipment acceptance
The excavation diameter of the equipment is 3.61m, the installed power is 960kW, the weight of the whole machine is about 330t, and the total length is 168m. It will enter the site in May 2019. Railway Construction Heavy Industry provides customers with one-stop technical guidance for the entire process of assembly, commissioning, test tunneling and escort, as well as remote video guidance services during the epidemic period, escorting the safe and smooth completion of the project. With the joint efforts of Jiangling Construction and China Railway Construction Heavy Industry, the project created a record of the highest daily footage of 13.2m and the highest monthly footage of 277m. The equipment integrity rate was as high as 98%, which was completed 3 months ahead of the original plan.

The DZ631 is the first export of CCC's muddy water balance shield machine to South Korea. The excellent performance and outstanding strength of the equipment have won the affirmation of the owners and customers. The success of the project has further enhanced CCC's market position in the development of underground space in South Korea and effectively helped the railway Jianhe Heavy Industry expands overseas markets.
